Our Story
Why we built Protein Balance.
I'm Saketh. My parents are in their 50s.
A while ago, things started changing for them. Less energy. Body pains that wouldn't go away. Falling sick more often. We assumed it was age.
Then we saw a doctor. He heard what they were eating and said the problem wasn't just age. They were losing muscle, and a big reason was protein. They hadn't been getting nearly enough.
I was surprised. We ate home-cooked food most of the time. I thought we were doing fine.
That week, I started tracking what we actually ate. We weren't even at half of what we needed.
Half.
We tried fixing it through food. More protein-rich meals, better planning. But getting there every day is harder than it sounds.
I spoke to Vamshy about it. A close friend. His family had been dealing with the same thing. Nothing had worked for them either.
So we looked at protein powders. Most people write them off as something for gym-goers. That never made sense to us. Protein isn't just a gym thing. And when we started looking closely at what was actually in these products, we understood why so many people don't trust them.
Every brand we tried had something off about it. Ingredients we couldn't read. Protein numbers that didn't hold up in third-party tests. Additives with no reason to be there.
Would we drink this? Would we give it to our parents? Almost every time, the answer was no.
We kept asking: why is it this hard to make a clean protein powder? Why so little transparency?
We weren't trying to build a brand. But we couldn't find what we were looking for, so we made it ourselves.
Months of researching, sourcing, testing. We went back many times before we got it right.
If we wouldn't take it for ourselves and give it to our family, we wouldn't make it.
That became Protein Balance.
